Today, 2 out of 3 shelters in the United States is no-kill (meaning 90% or above save rate). Sadly, Franklin County Dog Shelter lags behind. With a reported 75% save rate from 2023-2024, the shelter’s save dates continue to decline. Not only that, FCDS shelter has stopped trying to improve.
Since late 2024, the shelter has:
- It has stopped publicly reporting its statistics online
- Denied pubic records requests to community partners
- Restricted rescue groups and volunteers from reporting mismanagement
- Avoided applying for community grants with Best Friends Animal Society, and
- Failed to develop a strategic plan for improving their save statistics.
We aim to change that with the community’s support.
